Geekity: mini-geek parade in St. Petersburg

Having seen an announcement a couple of days ago that a small geek event was planned in my city, I decided that I shouldn’t miss the chance to take a peek at such an event. It’s not often that you see the Joker, Qui Gon Jinn or Finn walking down the street with a lightsaber. Of course, going there without a camera would be a big mistake, so I decided in advance to think about what exactly I would take. I had at my disposal a superzoom point-and-shoot camera with which I attended the festival of colors last August, and a Canon 1100d that belongs to my mother. But, alas, in the evening it turned out that there were no batteries for the soap dish at all, and on the day of the event it turned out that the mother was planning to take the camera with her for a walk. Therefore, I had to photograph everything using the wonderful and magnificent HTC Mozart. Well, at least it’s something.
There was nothing to do, and I, taking some money, set off on a long journey (as many as 2 metro stations). Of course, I understood that finding a venue would not be difficult at all.

There were 2 Jokers in total at the parade. And although the second one looked cooler, this one played cooler. For 3 hours he walked around and entertained passers-by.

But he wasn’t the only one who eurokingclubcasino.co.uk brought a lot of pleasure to the audience. Reptile, whom we know from the Mortal Kombat series of games, was also there. Unfortunately, he didn’t have anyone to stage a staged battle with, so instead he wowed the audience with his acrobatic feats.

The street was filled with laughter, applause and just a good mood. We were happy not only to experienced geeks, but also to ordinary passers-by who came here completely by accident. Those who wished were informed about the matter. For the workers of various cafes around, there was also a kind of holiday. They happily went out and watched what was happening, occasionally even taking part.

This commotion could not help but attract the attention of local reporters from youth channels. And not only that, there were people who took interviews simply for some sites, or so that they could post them on YouTube. Most often you could see reporters from the new channel “Yu” scurrying around everywhere.

The cosplayers themselves also had fun, and passers-by often suggested some stories. So, when I saw a guy on jumpers with a machine gun and Merida from the Brave cartoon with a bow, I immediately suggested that they exchange weapons. Yes, because I remembered Dishonored.

Overall, it was very fun and interesting. For a long time I regretted that I did not take my creeper mask from home, because this was a wonderful chance to put it on again.
Of course, what could be seen at this parade is only a small part of what they promise to show at Starcon and Geek Picnic, which will be held on July 13-14 and August 3-4, respectively, in St. Petersburg. But I’m still incredibly glad that I attended this event. In addition to seeing some pretty good cosplay, I was able to talk to some pretty interesting people, such as the man who actually assembled that machine gun himself, as well as “Reptile,” who talked about his plans to cosplay Smoke in the future. I hope to see this.
